Intrusive Ground Investigation
In general the purpose of any Ground Investigation is to minimise the risk associated with the ground by identifying all potential hazards to allow appropriate design strategies to be employed to mitigate them. Intrusive ground investigations are undertaken for two reasons:
- To collect geoenvironmental samples for contamination testing in response to information identified in the Desk Study;
- To identify and classify the geomaterials underlying a site to assist in the design of foundations or other subsurface structures.
However, this is where the segregation should end as it often leads to repeated mobilisation of plant and personnel and repeated site visits.
